The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, of the Benue State University Makurdi, Professor Edward Omudu has directed the commencement of conference marking of first semester 2016/2016 undergraduate examination scripts across all faculties.
The conference marking commenced yesterday 6th November 2016 and is taking place at designated halls in various faculties of the university. This measure is targeted at prompt processing and release of student results. Conference marking of scripts was introduced to help ease and address the issue of delay in the release of results.
Investigation shows that the exercise in the Faculty of Social Sciences is taking place at the conference room of the faulty, located at the Western Wing Campus of BSU. The Dean of the faculty, Dr. P. T. Abachi was seen supervising the marking while other academic staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences were also busy with the exams marking. In the Faculty of Management Sciences, marking is going on at the MBA Hall of the Faculty. However, only a handful of the academic staff were seen partaking in the exercise.
Speaking to Phd News, Grace Anweh, an academic staff in the Department of Mass Communication said, the idea of conference marking was a welcome development as it gives lecturers ample time to quickly finish up with script marking. This, she said will give them enough room to prepare and plan for academic activities for the second semester which begins next week.
It could be recall that conference marking of examination scripts at the Benue State University was started a few years ago to address complaints by students regarding delayed results. With centralised system of mark, the university can quickly process all results before the beginning of a new academic year. Little refreshment is provided by the university management to motivate academic staff to partake in the exercise.
